Adults and Teens

Invisalign is for Adults and Teens

It’s hard to imagine who dreads clunky, old-fashioned metal braces more:

  • ADULTS who are self-conscious about the stigma of wearing braces, which are typically associated with “younger people” and not “grown ups”
  • TEENS who feel like running away in the other direction in order to avoid being called “brace face” or “metal mouth” (and let’s not even talk about yearbook photos!)

Regardless of whether adults or teens dislike braces more – and we think it might be a tie! – the plain fact is that braces aren’t embraced by anyone, to say the least.

And that makes perfect sense! Regardless of your age, who wants to go around wearing metal wires on your teeth…not for days…not for weeks…not for months…but for YEARS?

And if that weren’t enough of a reason to hate braces, there are those legendary trips to the orthodontist to get your braces tightened. Perhaps you have a friend or family member who has shared with you just how much “fun” that is. Let’s just say that painkillers are standard.

And on top of that, there’s the whole cleaning hassle. Trying to floss with braces is tedious and time consuming – which is an even bigger hassle for most teens, who aren’t going to spend several minutes a day making sure that their oral hygiene is in good order (if you’re a parent, you probably know that getting them to brush twice a day is hard enough as it is!).

So put that all together, and while adults and teens may disagree on music taste, the long-term merits of homework, why jeans aren’t suitable for a wedding (even though they cost like they should be), they can easily agree on one thing: no braces, please!

Well, at Arbutus North Dental Centre, we’re delighted to let you know that Invisalign is “100% brace free,” and that it’s designed for BOTH adults and teens. There’s original Invisalign for adults, and Invisalign Teen for teens.

The design and construction of both Invisalign and Invisalign Teen are 100% the same. They’re both made from the same high quality material, and achieve the same teeth-straightening goal without pain or metal wires and brackets.

The only difference between the two, is that Invisalign Teen has some cool features designed specifically for teens. For instance, Invisalign Teen accommodates erupting teeth (i.e. teeth that are not in yet or partially in). Plus, Invisalign Teen has special “Power Ridges” to help with the kind of difficult tooth movements that many teens experience.

So what’s the bottom line? It’s simply that Invisalign and Invisalign Teen are perfect for both adults and teens!
